Face Packs vs Face Masks – What to Use and When?

Face Packs vs Face Masks – What to Use and When?

You’ve seen both in stores.

Some jars say “face pack”, some say “face mask”.

Both look similar. Both go on the face.

So, what’s the difference?

“Doctor, face pack aur face mask mein farq kya hai?”

“Kya dono ek hi kaam karte hain?”

Let me clear the confusion in simple words.

They’re not the same—they work differently, feel different, and suit different skin needs.

🧴 What is a Face Pack?

• Usually made with natural or clay-based ingredients

• Dries and tightens on your skin

• Has a cooling and calming effect

• Needs to stay on the skin for 15–20 minutes

• Then you rinse it off

🟒 Best for:

Oily skin

Pimples and open pores

Dull, tired skin

People who like a matte look

πŸ” Common ingredients: Multani mitti, sandalwood, neem, turmeric, clay

πŸ’‘ Face packs pull out oil and dirt from deep inside your skin.

But overuse can make dry skin worse.

😷 What is a Face Mask?

• Comes in two types:

1. Sheet mask (cotton sheet soaked in serum)

2. Cream or gel-based mask

• Does not dry or tighten

• Feels soothing and hydrating

• Keep it on for 10–20 minutes, then either wash or pat the serum in

🟒 Best for:

Dry or dehydrated skin

Sensitive skin

After sun exposure

When skin feels dull or flaky

πŸ” Common ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, aloe vera, ceramides, vitamin C

πŸ’‘ Face masks give moisture and a glow to your skin.

πŸ€” So, Which One Should You Use?

Skin Type or ConditionUse This
Oily, acne-prone, sweaty skinFace Pack (clay-based)
Dry, flaky, irritated skinHydrating Face Mask
After sun or pollutionSoothing Face Mask
For glow before functionSheet Mask (15 min glow)
For detox and deep cleanHerbal Face Pack
During travel or tired skinSerum-based Face Mask

πŸ”„ Can You Use Both?

Yes, but not on the same day.

• Use face pack once a week (max 2 times for oily skin)

• Use mask once or twice a week as needed

πŸ’‘ Face packs are like cleaning your house deeply.

Face masks are like decorating it after cleaning.

⚠️ Mistakes to Avoid

🚫 Using face pack daily – over-dries skin

🚫 Using sheet mask on dirty skin – traps dirt inside

🚫 Applying pack/mask on active pimples with pus – can irritate skin

🚫 Leaving any product on longer than advised – may cause irritation

πŸ‘¨‍⚕️ Dr. Rizwan’s Quick Advice:

• If you’re going out and want an instant glow → Use a hydrating face mask

• If your skin feels oily and heavy → Use a clay-based face pack

• If your skin feels dull and dry → Use a serum mask with hyaluronic acid

• And always wash your face before using any mask or pack

Final Words

Face pack = Clean-up & oil control

Face mask = Hydration & glow

Choose according to your skin type, weather, and occasion.

You don’t need both every week—pick what your skin is asking for.
