Sitting Under the Fan or AC All Day? Here’s What It’s Doing to Your Skin

Sitting Under the Fan or AC All Day? Here’s What It’s Doing to Your Skin

Let’s be honest.

Most of us—especially during summer—spend our entire day sitting under a fan or air conditioner (AC).

Whether it’s at your clinic, office, shop, or even at home…

It feels great.

But your skin may not be enjoying it as much as you do.

Let me explain in simple words.

💨 What Fans and ACs Are Doing to Your Skin

When you sit directly under a fan or AC for long hours, these things happen:

1. Your Skin Becomes Dry and Stretched

AC removes moisture from the air.

And from your skin too.

Your skin may start to feel:

• Rough

• Tight

• Flaky around nose or cheeks

• Sometimes itchy

You may even say:

“Mujhe toh oily skin hai, fir bhi skin khinchti hai.”

Yes, even oily skin can get dehydrated.

2. Premature Fine Lines

Constant dryness leads to early fine lines—especially around:

• Eyes

• Mouth

• Forehead

This is because dry skin shows aging faster.

3. Increased Oil Production (in Some Cases)

When skin feels dry, it overreacts and produces more oil to balance things.

Result?

• Oily T-zone

• More breakouts

• Open pores

Especially common in people who sit under AC for long hours and skip moisturiser.

4. Dull & Tired-Looking Face

The more you’re exposed to dry, cool air, the more your natural glow fades.

You start looking dull, fatigued, or even slightly greyish by evening.

5. Sensitivity & Redness

AC air may also trigger redness, itching, or irritation—especially in people with:

• Sensitive skin

• Rosacea

• Eczema

Many patients say:

“Doctor, cheek pe redness aa jaati hai jab main AC mein baithi rehti hoon.”

This is more common than you think.

✅ Simple Skincare Tips for AC/Fan Exposure

🌤️ Morning Routine:

1. Use a gentle cleanser – not too drying

2. Apply a hydrating serum (look for hyaluronic acid or glycerin)

3. Use a light, non-greasy moisturiser

4. Don’t forget sunscreen, even if you stay indoors

🌇 Afternoon/Work Hours:

• Keep a hydrating mist at your desk

• Drink enough water (don’t wait to feel thirsty)

• Reapply moisturiser on dry areas if needed

• Avoid sitting directly in the AC airflow if possible

🌙 Night Routine:

1. Clean your face gently

2. Use a nourishing night cream or oil-free hydrating gel

3. You can apply a sleep mask twice a week to repair skin

4. Keep a bowl of water or a humidifier in your room if sleeping with AC

🌿 Dr. Rizwan’s Pro Recommendations:

From my clinic experience, these work well for people who stay under AC/fan all day:

Gel-based moisturisers with aloe vera or panthenol

Serums with hyaluronic acid + Vitamin B5

Sunscreen with added hydration (especially for indoor use)

Once-a-month hydration facials or skin barrier repair treatments

These are safe for both men and women, even during summer.

Final Thoughts

Sitting under the fan or AC all day may feel nice…

But it silently steals moisture from your skin.

Dry, dull, or irritated skin is not always due to sun or dust.

Sometimes, it’s your indoor comfort causing it.

So give your skin a little extra care.
