Weird Skin Growths You Shouldn’t Ignore – When to See a Dermatologist

Weird Skin Growths You Shouldn’t Ignore – When to See a Dermatologist

Not every bump, mole, or patch on your skin is dangerous — but some can be a sign of something serious.

In our clinic, we often hear patients say:

“Yeh toh purani hai, dard bhi nahi hoti.”

“I thought it was just a pimple that never went away.”

But the truth is — when it comes to your skin, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Let’s talk about the types of skin growths you should not ignore.

🔍 1. A Mole That Changes Shape or Color

If a mole that used to be round and brown suddenly becomes:

• Irregular in shape

• Darker or multicolored

• Itchy, bleeding, or crusty

👉 This could be a warning sign of melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

You need to get it checked — even if it looks small.

🔍 2. Small, Shiny Bumps (Especially on the Face)

These might be basal cell carcinomas, which are slow-growing skin cancers.

They often look like:

• Shiny or pearly bumps

• Pimple-like growths that don’t go away

• Bleeding sores that heal and come back

👉 These don’t spread fast, but they won’t go away on their own.

🔍 3. Warts That Keep Coming Back

Warts are caused by a virus (HPV) and are usually harmless.

But if:

• They’re spreading fast

• They keep coming back after removal

• They’re painful or irritating

👉 A dermatologist should evaluate and treat them with the right method (like cryotherapy, lasers, or topical solutions).

🔍 4. Skin Tags in Sensitive Areas

Skin tags are soft, hanging growths — often around the neck, underarms, or eyelids.

They’re harmless, but if they:

• Suddenly grow bigger

• Become painful or dark

• Are in areas of constant friction

👉 You should consider getting them checked or removed safely — don’t cut them at home!

🔍 5. Red, Scaly Patches That Don’t Heal

This could be a sign of actinic keratosis or squamous cell carcinoma (another type of skin cancer), especially if:

• It bleeds, crusts, or cracks

• It keeps coming back in the same spot

• It’s on sun-exposed areas (face, scalp, ears, hands)

🩺 When to Definitely See a Dermatologist:

• Any new growth that’s not going away

• A sore or bump that bleeds or hurts

• Sudden increase in number of moles or tags

• Growths that itch, change color, or become crusty

• Anything that feels odd or looks different from the rest of your skin

👨‍⚕️ At Our Clinic, We…

We check all suspicious skin growths using:

Dermatoscopy (a skin microscope)

Biopsy, if needed

• Non-invasive and safe removal treatments (lasers, cryo, electrocautery)

Early checkups help us catch things before they become dangerous.
