The Most Common Myths I Hear in My Clinic
Even today, many people walk into a skin clinic carrying half-truths and myths they’ve heard from family, friends, or social media.
Some myths are harmless… but many delay treatment, worsen the condition, or create unnecessary fear.
Here are the myths I hear almost every day in my clinic—and the truth behind them.
⸻
1. “Doctor, acne sirf face nahi dhone se hota hai.”
Myth: Pimples come only because of poor hygiene.
Truth: Acne happens due to hormones, oil glands, bacteria, and genetics.
Washing the face too much actually irritates the skin and increases pimples.
⸻
2. “Fairness cream se skin glow ho jayegi.”
Myth: Fairness creams improve skin health.
Truth: Most fairness creams contain steroids or harmful ingredients that thin the skin and cause long-term damage.
Healthy skin is more important than fair skin.
⸻
3. “Hairfall hota hai toh shampoo badal do, theek ho jayega.”
Myth: Changing shampoo will stop hairfall.
Truth: Hairfall is usually from stress, hormones, diet imbalance, dandruff, thyroid issues, or genetics.
Shampoo alone cannot stop it.
⸻
4. “Sunscreen sirf garmi me lagta hai.”
Myth: You need sunscreen only in summer.
Truth: UV rays are present every day.
Even winter, cloudy days, and indoor lights affect the skin.
Sunscreen is a daily-use product.
⸻
5. “Laser karwa liya toh hair kabhi wapas nahi aayenge.”
Myth: Laser gives permanent 100% hair removal.
Truth: It reduces hair growth a lot, but some fine hair may return.
Maintenance sessions are normal and safe.
⸻
6. “Doctor, steroid cream se skin bright ho gayi… main use kar sakta hoon na?”
Myth: Topical steroids are beauty creams.
Truth: Steroids give temporary brightness but damage the skin badly—redness, thinning, acne, pigmentation.
They should be used only when the doctor prescribes them.
⸻
7. “Natural remedies safe hote hain… neem, haldi, aloe vera se damage nahi hota.”
Myth: Natural means safe.
Truth: Skin allergies from DIY home remedies are extremely common.
Lemon burns, haldi rashes, aloe vera allergies—these bring many patients to the clinic.
⸻
8. “Age ho gayi toh skin repair nahi hoti.”
Myth: After a certain age, nothing works.
Truth: Skin can improve at any age with the right plan—lasers, peels, anti-aging products, and healthy habits.
⸻
9. “Once treatment starts, results should be fast.”
Myth: Quick results mean good results.
Truth: Skin improves slowly and steadily.
Fast results usually mean harsh products, which cause long-term damage.
⸻
10. “Doctor, mujhe koi bhi cream chal jayegi.”
Myth: All skin types react the same way.
Truth: Skin is unique.
What suits your friend may irritate you.
A personalised plan is necessary.

Good skin comes from good information.
And good information comes from meeting a real skin doctor—not from forwarded messages and random advice.
