Difference Between Fungal Infection and Eczema

Difference Between Fungal Infection and Eczema

Both fungal infection and eczema can cause red, itchy patches, but they are not the same.

Fungal Infection (Ringworm / Tinea):

• Caused by fungus.

• Round patches with clear borders.

• Itching is usually intense.

• Spreads from one person to another.

• Needs antifungal treatment.

Eczema:

• Caused by skin’s sensitivity, not an infection.

• Dry, scaly patches, often without a clear border.

• Itching is variable, worse with dryness.

• Not contagious.

• Needs moisturizers and sometimes medicated creams.

👉 Mistaking one for the other can delay proper treatment. That’s why professional diagnosis is important.
