“Post-Holi Skin Detox – What to Do and What NOT to Do”

“Post-Holi Skin Detox – What to Do and What NOT to Do”

📍 By Dr. Rizwan’s Skin Cosmetic & Laser Clinic, Shahjahanpur

The colors are gone, but your skin is still feeling it.

Redness, itching, dryness, breakouts — sound familiar?

After Holi, many patients visit our clinic with skin reactions caused by harsh colors, scrubbing, and wrong home remedies.

So here’s a simple, skin-friendly Post-Holi Detox Guide

What you should do, and more importantly, what you should NOT do.

✅ WHAT TO DO:

1. Wash Off Gently – No Rubbing!

Use lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free face wash.

Avoid using hot water or strong soaps.

Don’t scrub your skin to remove color — it can cause micro-cuts and rashes.

Be patient. Let the color fade over a few washes.

2. Moisturize Immediately

Colors dry out your skin. Even if your face feels oily, the skin underneath is usually irritated and dehydrated.

Apply a calming moisturizer right after washing your face.

🧴 Look for ingredients like aloe vera, panthenol, ceramides, or niacinamide.

3. Apply Soothing Ingredients

If your skin is red or burning slightly:

• Dab raw aloe vera gel or calamine lotion

• Use a cold compress (clean cloth dipped in cold water) to reduce irritation

• Avoid heat, steam, or direct sun for a day or two

4. Use a Gentle Face Mask (Optional)

After 2–3 days, if your skin has calmed down, you can use a hydrating face mask to bring back glow.

✅ Oatmeal + curd

✅ Honey + aloe vera

✅ Cucumber juice + rose water

But always patch-test first.

❌ WHAT NOT TO DO:

1. No Lemon or Besan on Skin

These are common “nani ke nuskhe” but very harsh after Holi.

Lemon can sting and irritate, especially on broken skin.

Besan dries out skin further and can clog pores if not cleaned properly.

2. No Parlor Facials or Peels

Your skin is already stressed.

Chemical peels, bleach, scrubs, or even parlour facials can worsen redness, sensitivity, or breakouts.

Wait at least 7–10 days before trying any cosmetic treatment.

3. Don’t Keep Color Overnight

Some people say “let the color stay, it will go naturally.”

Please don’t.

Leaving colors overnight means more chemical absorption, more irritation, and more skin damage.

4. Avoid Makeup for 1–2 Days

Let your skin rest.

If you really need to apply something, go for light, breathable BB cream or tinted sunscreen.

Final Skin Advice from Dr. Rizwan:

Holi is about fun, not about facing a week of skin issues.

Most damage we see post-Holi comes from wrong aftercare, not just the colors.

So go gentle, hydrate well, and listen to your skin.

If redness, swelling, itching, or peeling doesn’t stop in 2–3 days — come visit us. Sometimes, skin needs medical support to calm down.
