“How to Know If a Product From a Local Shop Is Safe for Your Skin”

“How to Know If a Product From a Local Shop Is Safe for Your Skin”

🛍️ Local Market, Local Creams – But Is It Safe?

Many people walk into our clinic and say:

“Doctor, I bought this cream from a local shop. It said ‘natural’ on the label. But now my face is itching, red, or full of pimples.”

It’s very common. Local shops and beauty stores often sell skincare creams, lotions, or face packs without proper knowledge or checks. Just because something is available easily and cheaply, doesn’t mean it’s safe.

So before you buy a skincare product from your nearby shop, here are simple steps to check if it’s actually safe for your skin.

✅ 1. Check the Label Properly – Don’t Just Go by the Front

Many products write things like:

• “100% Herbal”

• “Doctor’s Formula”

• “Instant Whitening”

• “No Side Effects”

But flip the box or tube and see:

• Is the manufacturer’s name and address clearly written?

• Does it have a batch number and expiry date?

• Is it approved by the CDSCO or Drug Authority (especially if it claims to treat a skin problem)?

If not – stay away.

❌ 2. Avoid “Magic Mixtures” or Unlabeled Creams

Some local shops or parlours sell creams in plastic containers with no label at all – and say:

“This is better than branded creams. All herbal.”

These often contain strong steroids, bleach, or fungal medicine mixed without safety. They may show fast results, but damage your skin slowly.

🤔 3. Ask: Is It Cosmetic or Medical?

If the product says it can:

• Remove dark spots

• Treat acne

• Heal fungal infection

• Cure pigmentation

…it is not just a cosmetic. It becomes a medical product, and should only be used after checking with a dermatologist.

🚩 4. Beware of These Common Red Flags

Creams with no ingredients list

Extra whitening or fairness promises

Creams that tingle or burn when you apply

Products with very strong smell or bleach-like effect

“Imported” creams with no proper registration in India

🧴 5. Patch Test if You’re Unsure

If you still want to try a new cream:

• Apply a small amount behind your ear or on your inner arm.

• Wait for 24 hours.

• If you feel any itching, redness, or bumps — don’t use it on your face.

🙋‍♂️ Doctor’s Advice:

Many cheap creams can cause permanent pigmentation, pimples, or skin thinning. Some even lead to steroid addiction, where your skin looks fine only as long as you use the cream – and becomes worse when you stop.

We’ve seen so many patients suffering because of one small wrong cream from a local shop. Please don’t take your skin lightly.

💡 Final Tip:

Just because a product is:

• “Local”

• “Herbal”

• “Used by others”

…does not make it safe for you.

Your skin is unique. Treat it with care.
